“Work smart; not hard” is the motto Cheryl Ng of FouFou Dog (www.foufoudog.com) swears by and that is exactly what she’s done. From a young age, she has been involved with making a name for herself. In 2002, she started a promotional, design, and printing company called Creative Nutz. Cheryl comes from a sales background so promoting her services came naturally to her. Combined with an infectious personality, it took no time for her to build her success from a Promo Company to being the CEO of three different companies today.

It wasn’t an easy journey for Cheryl, though. After deciding that school wasn’t for her, she worked extra hard at perfecting her skills in networking, sales, and growing her business. It isn’t about getting a bachelor’s degree that measures your ability – it’s your attitude and persistence. She says, “you may hit the wall a million times, but don’t give up. Successful people are the ones that never gave up.” - and she’s right.

FouFou Dog was incorporated in 2005 and in a little over 3 years is now bringing in a gross of $2-5 million annually. Through partnerships with large retail companies such as Pet Valu, PJ’s Pet Centre, and Bark and Fitz, she has definitely taken a seemingly small-time dream to the big leagues. She started this company with her cousin, Evelyn, and her younger sister, Jennifer, and now has grown to 6 full-time employees. When asked about how she manages a business with family members, her answer was, “everyone has their own talents and specialties. They do their job, so no one really bumps heads”. Of course, there are the occasional disagreements, but Cheryl’s philosophy is taken with the open-door approach as she welcomes her employees to discuss anything that can be improved with her.
Her humble beginnings of cold-calling have definitely paid off. She advises to never get ahead of yourself and that doing industry research and not being afraid to ask questions is in fact a blessing.

Today, she manages three companies; Creative Nutz, FouFou Dog (www.foufoudog.com), and FFD Designs (product development and trading). If you asked her 5 years ago, whether she imagined herself to be where she is, she would probably say no. But persistence, attitude, and a great personality sure go a long way!
